Tips for working with vendors? Reply

Does anyone have any tips on how to develop and maintain a good relationship with a vendor?

Hi

There are few ways to maintain a good relationship.

1. Make sure you vendor is an actual vendor not somebody sitting behind the comp. at home and acting like a middle man.
2. If you request info from the vendor, they should provide it to you in a reasonable amount of time.
3. If the vendor says all prices went up in general, don't argue with them and say it's not your problem because you always pay less.
4. A real wholesale vendor should ask you for resale number and accept credit cards as form of payment. (for your safety)
5. Ask the vendor to put your email on promotional list to send you emails about specials they got going on.
6. Call them twice a month and ask them if they got any specials going on.
The more you stay in contact, the more they'll remember you and give you better treatment. Even though this is sad but it's true.

Thank You
Gary

We treat our vendors just like we do our customers to develop a good working relationship. We are the marketing arm for our vendors so we have to build a good solid relationship to be able to keep the product line they offer. By doing this our vendors have been very excited about doing things for us. Such as, when we offer a product training the vendors are more than happy to support us, since we are supporting them, In addition, they support and protect us and send us leads. We will be promoting our products at the ILS show in Las Vegas this week and several vendors that we have developed strong relationships with are donating sample products for door prizes. I think we are all in sales here and just put the shoe on the other foot. Don't you want to deal with customers that are easy to deal with, Don't you go out of your way to help your customer that is friendly? One of our vendors that we have developed a good relationship with on a business and personal level, had their art department design an ad for us at NO CHARGE!!...

We always try to work with our vendors to develop a friendship, so when we need something we usually get it. All you have to do is ask and be a low maintenance customer.

WE are now doing something different with our vendors and offering Plaques - "Supplier of Excellence" Awards this shows the vendor you appreciate the extra effort they have provided you with to help grow your business. Remember - Business goes where it is deserved and stays where it is appreciated.
Remember our vendors are humans just like we are and don't we all go that extra mile when we get a pat on the back? Now, sometimes you do get a vendor that is difficult to deal with, but lets keep this thread positive
