Where are you? Shipping on candles is expensive and it's best to find someone nearby.

What kind of candles do you want? Jars, votives, tarts, tapers, cakes?

I have a relative that works at the Yankee Candle Company. They claims their candles are the best. You can check out their site at www.yankeecandle.com

Greg, Have you ever known a company to say their products weren't the best? "Oh, we just make mediocre stuff!"? Of course they say theirs are the best.

Many people in the candle business will disagree with that. They will tell you that Yankee EXCELS at marketing, but not a candle making. They have done an excellent job of brainwashing many people into believing they are getting a great product.

Actually, Yankee candles are mini soot factories. The insides of their jars will soot up and turn black more than many other brands.

They fill their jars with 3 pours of wax. The top, final pour, which may be 15 to 20 percent of the total candle, has more fragrance than the rest of the wax. This is part of the marketing, give that strong scent when the customer first opens a jar when deciding what to buy.

But, mention this to many Yankee users and they'll admit the candles lose their fragrance by the time they get burned down half way. The scent is in the top to get them to buy.

I believe their yearly sales equal about $500,000,000. If they're earning that much they must be doing something right.

I'll admit it. When I think of going to by a candle for myself or a gift, the first thing that pops in my mind is Yankee Candle. But you're right...the jar does get all black and nasty about half way through the burning. I've found some real good quality candles from smaller family owned wholesale candle companies.

It's all about the marketing and Yankee Candle has blown away the competition. It kind of reminds me of Starbucks. I don't go to there because I love their coffee (I actually hate their coffee. I feel the local 7-eleven brews better coffee than Starbucks). But what sells Starbucks is the experience they create. It's a great environment to hang out and meet up with friends. It's also convenient for quick business meetings because they allow me to access the internet for free. My point is, just because a company has better products, doesn't mean they'll sell the most. I can't wait to see what's going to happen when McDonald's start to put a Starbuck like coffee lounge inside their stores. Could we finally begin to see a downfall in this coffee and latte Giant?
